Marriage (Spouse) Visa in Thailand

Many foreigners who marry a Thai citizen choose to apply for a Thai Marriage Visa in order to live together in Thailand long term. This visa allows the foreign spouse to stay in Thailand for one year at a time and can be extended annually, provided the relationship remains legally valid and all requirements continue to be satisfied.

The Thai Marriage Visa is issued under the Non-Immigrant “O” category and is specifically designed for spouses of Thai nationals.

Key points about Marriage Visa

1. Visa Renewable: The Marriage Visa extension is valid for one year. It can be renewed annually as long as the marriage remains legally registered and the financial requirements continue to be met.

2. Re-entry Permit: If you plan to travel outside Thailand during the validity of your visa extension, you must apply for a re-entry permit before departure. Without this permit, your extension of stay may become void.

3. 90-Days Reporting: All Marriage Visa holders are required to report their current residential address to Thai Immigration every 90 days.

4. Important Information:

  • Holding a Marriage Visa does not automatically grant the right to work.
  • If you wish to work in Thailand, you must obtain a valid work permit in addition to your visa.
